Fresh Fragrances

As the name suggests, the Fresh Fragrance family is the home of those clean and bright compositions that often remind us of summer. One of the easiest ways to identify fresh notes is to think about the ingredients of a mojito - lime (citrus/fruity notes), soda water (aquatic notes), mint (green/herby notes) and rum (aromatic-spicy notes). Fresh notes, especially citrus’ are some of the lightest used in perfumery. To help them stick around, fresh notes are often combined with spices and woods to improve their longevity.

So what are the different kinds of fresh fragrances?

The most widely known fresh perfumes are often Fresh Citruses, which often feature large helpings of bergamot, mandarin, grapefruit and lime. One of the great things about citrus fragrances, like Perris Monte Carlo’s Bergamotto di Calabria, is that they can very often be shared, equally suited to both men and women. Better still, they are easy to mix with other fragrances and add an extra feeling of refreshment.

Fresh Aromatic fragrances, like Duc de Vervins from Houbigant, typically lean more masculine than feminine, and combine traditional citrus notes with the elegance of herbal flavours like thyme, rosemary or tarragon. However, Fresh Green fragrances, such as Molinard’s The Basilic, have an almost sporty feel to them, thanks to grassy and leafy notes, green tea and herbs; often enjoying greater longevity than the majority of the fresh family.

Fresh Fruity perfumes are some of the most popular fragrances for both men and women. Much like their fresh citrus counterparts, fresh fruity perfumes are laden with mouthwatering tones of apple, pineapple, peach and berries. These delicious flavours naturally lend themselves to summertime and add a youthful charm to fragrances, such as Chabaud’s Caprice de Sophie

Finishing off our Fresh Fragrances Buyer’s Guide are Fresh Aquatic fragrances, sometimes called ozonic. These are perfumes like Rock Star by Carner Barcelona. In fresh aquatic fragrances, masterful perfumers can bring to life the intangible, through combinations of unique ingredients that recreate the refreshing aroma of a sea breeze or cool mountain air.
