A Little Bit of Spring!

With the imminent arrival of April, spring is wholeheartedly upon us. As the days begin to get longer, the sky a little brighter, and flowers come into full bloom, we thought it the perfect opportunity to share some of our favourite spring fragrances. These are guaranteed to have heads turning as the shops, pubs and restaurant's begin to re-open in only 12 days time! So, if you’re looking for an extra spring in your step, look no further than our suggestions below, and if you fancy trying them all, you can find them in our April Explorer’s Box.

There is something about mimosa that just screams springtime; its sweet, honeyed powdery texture and vibrant yellow petals radiate a soft sunny warmth that’s filled with a timeless elegance. In 2019, Mater Perfume Jean Claude Ellena composed the magnificent Mimosa Tanneron for Perris Monte Carlo, and what a gem it is! Beginning with a luminous burst of mimosa that’s perfectly balanced with tender notes of rose, hawthorne and white musk, this symphonic fragrance perfectly captures the majesty of the flower clad valleys of the Tanneron.

Orange blossom is another ingredient that lends itself to the springtime. Its porcelain white petals have a soft, yet refreshing smell that’s full of virtue and purity. You can find orange blossom in tonnes of fragrances at Perfume Playground, all with distinctly different styles (see our fragrance families page to learn more), but one of our favourites is Warni Warni from Maison Matine. Warni Warni is a fabulous and unique fragrance that pairs a refreshing note of tea with orange blossom, freesia and musk in a composition that is extremely playful and full of life.

Much like orange blossom (actually coming from the same flower but extracted differently), neroli is another wonderful ingredient for the springtime, thanks to its light, airy-green citrus character. You’ll find neroli as one of the key ingredients in Rosendo Mateu’s Number Three, but it gains a gentle powdery texture from iris and jasmine, which perfectly complements the slightly woodier base notes of white musk, cashmere wood and tonka bean making Number 3 in particular ideal for early spring.

If you’re after a real avant-garde spring fragrance that’s a little more complex and features lovely spring flavours of mimosa, lily of the valley and white rose then look no further than MASQUE Milano’s Dolceacqua. The iconic Dolceacqua takes you on an early morning cruise around the hills and coastal roads of the Cote D’Azure. Here, green notes, mimosa and a gentle coastal breeze intertwine with soft florals of ylang ylang and silky musks in an effortlessly elegant floral composition that comes alive on the skin. Better still, this elegant floral is so versatile it'll see you through the summer all the way to the autumn.

For something slightly more unique, fruitier notes like tangerine, pear and osmanthus (a natural fruity note that comes from the flower) are no strangers to our spring fragrance wardrobes. Their sweetness adds a radiant glow to compositions that’s perfect for warm spring evenings. One of our favourite fruity florals is Choeur des Anges by Atelier Des Ors; this opulent creation marries delicious notes of blood orange, blackcurrant and pear with orange blossom, amber and honey, that radiates happiness and joy.
