Psychotrope by Malbrum opens with a metal bite of saffron, but any danger in edges is curbed by cypress and cedars sweet airs, and the nutty heat of pimento berries, elemi and ambergris. Incense and sandalwood interweave to bring an effervescence to this adrenaline-inducing cocktail. Gurjun balsam is crucial to the scent’s play-on-skin, a honey-black elixir that fills in the empty, interpreting the hallucinogenic effects that hallucinogenic substances provoke in humans.
