Ambre Gris is a natural secretion of the giant Cachalote formed by the nondigestible materials and gastric juices. Once the whale ejects into the sea it must remain there for years, kissed by the sun to give us the substance reminiscent of seaweed on the beach or dusty dry woody scents, vaguely earthy. This material was as valuable as gold and was marketed in the Middle East, India and China for its alleged aphrodisiac and medicinal properties. To this day it is still one of the most precious materials in perfumery due to its rarity and high demand.
